How to recognize the trees
Know and recognize the trees of the Botanical Garden of Turin
Today, in the Botanical Garden of Turin, there are around 250 tree species, both part of the native Italian flora and exotic, i.e. coming from distant countries, imported for forestry or ornamental purposes. Some of these were introduced for the first time in Italy at the beginning of the 19th century and also in the Botanical Garden of Turin where some specimens today take on the value of monumental trees.
For primary and lower secondary school students, this guide to tree recognition uses the treasure hunt as an engagement tool to stimulate observation, knowledge and recognition of the trees in the garden.
The interactive guide proposed for tablets and smartphones, in navigable version online or in printable version allows you to observe the general appearance of the trees, the morphology of the leaves, flowers and fruits in a fun and interactive way.
The guide also allows you to assign the scientific name to the different species, also approaching the world of classification and scientific nomenclature used by specialists.
For each tree species, a card is proposed with many photographs of the different parts of the plant in the various seasons, with information on its geographical origin, the period of introduction in Europe and in the Botanical Garden of Turin, and on forestry or ornamental uses.
The treasure hunt will be carried out under the control and supervision of staff expert in the knowledge of plants, on the occasion of the educational visits of schools.
