XVI Introduction course to beekeeping

For spring 2026 the Beekeepers of the Botanical Garden are organizing a new edition of the introductory course to beekeeping. 

The course timetable is as follows:

Sunday 10 May 2026 10.00-12.00: Theoretical lesson (Room 3 – Botanical Garden of Turin) 

Bee biology. Methods and materials used for bee breeding, installation of an apiary, condition of the hive during the year, prevention of swarming, creation of new families. 

Saturday 16 May 2026 10.00-12.00: Practical session (Apiary of the Botanical Garden of Turin)

Visit to the hives and evaluation of the families. 

Sunday 17 May 2026 10.00-12.00: Theoretical lesson (Room 3 – Botanical Garden of Turin) 

Beehive products (honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, wax and poison): production techniques and properties.

Saturday 23 May 2026 10.00-12.00: Practical session (Apiary of the Botanical Garden of Turin) 

Visit to the hives and evaluation of the families. 

Sunday 24 May 2026 10.00-12.00: Theoretical lesson (Room 3 – Botanical Garden of Turin) 

Main bee diseases; beekeeping regulations and urban beekeeping. Convivial buffet at the end of the course.

 

Registration method: send an email request to apiario.ortobotanicotorino@gmail.com with name, surname, municipality of residence and telephone/mobile number of the participant.

 

Registration deadline: May 3, 2026

 

Participation fee: 90 euros (to be paid at the first lesson; the fee includes an entrance ticket valid for a guided tour of the Botanical Garden during the scheduled opening hours).

 

Notes:

- In case of bad weather, the practical sessions in the apiary will be moved to a date to be agreed.
