7th introductory course to beekeeping at the Turin Botanical Garden

The spring edition of the Beekeeping course could not be held due to the Covid-19 health emergency; the beekeepers therefore redesigned the course for the autumn, hoping for the conditions to be able to carry it out.

 

6, 13 and 20 September 2020

 

Organized by the Beekeepers of the Botanical Garden Lorenzo Domenis and Marco Cucco at the Botanical Garden of Turin on Sundays with the following calendar and program:

 

Sunday 6th September 2020
h 9.00-11.00: Theoretical lesson (Room 3 - Turin Botanical Garden)
Bee biology. Methods and materials used for the breeding of bees, installation of an apiary, management of the hive during the year, prevention of swarming, establishment of new families.
11.00-13.00: Practical session (Apiary of the Turin Botanical Garden)
Visit of the hives and evaluation of families.

 

Sunday 13th September 2020
9.00-11.00: Theoretical lesson (Room 3 - Turin Botanical Garden)
Products from the hive (honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, wax and poison): production techniques and properties.
11.00-13.00: Practical session (Apiary of the Turin Botanical Garden)
Practical session: visit of the hives and evaluation of families.

 

Sunday 20th September 2020
10.00-12.00: Theoretical lesson (Room 3 - Turin Botanical Garden)
Main bee diseases (varroasis, American foulbrood, European foulbrood, nosemiasis); beekeeping and urban beekeeping regulations.
Afterwards, a convivial buffet.

 

Deadline for registration: 30 August 2020 - Send a confirmation email with the participant's name, surname and telephone number to apincitta@libero.it (link sends e-mail)

Enrollment fee: 75 euros (fee including an entrance ticket valid for a guided tour of the Botanical Garden on one of the five days of the course, during the scheduled opening hours).

 

Note:
- In case of bad weather, the practical lessons at the apiary will be moved to a date to be agreed.
- For those who do not have them, the protective masks to be used in the practical sessions will be provided by the organizers.

 

ATTENTION: The activation of the course is subject to the evolution of the Covid-19 emergency and the related regional and national regulations drawn up. The lessons could be held entirely outdoors, in case of inaccessibility of the classroom.
